WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Routine traffic stops are like a box of chocolates.

You never know what you’re going to get.

Just ask the West Valley City police officer who tried to pull over a car near 2700 South on northbound Interstate 215 early Thursday morning.

According to West Valley City Police Lt. Mike Fassmo, the officer initiated the stop, but the driver of the car took his time pulling over, coming to a halt at the side of the I-201 eastbound on-ramp.

As the officer approached the vehicle, it suddenly rolled down a short embankment. Three men then jumped from the car and tried to scale a tall chain-link fence.

One of the suspects was arrested on the spot.

The two others cleared the fence, and one was captured in a matter of minutes, while another remains at large.

Once police searched the suspects’ vehicle they were startled to find a loaded pistol with an extended clip, jewelry, and what appeared to be a silencer.

One of the suspects taken into custody was wearing ballistic body armor.

West Valley City Police Department along with Unified Police took part in the containment efforts.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the third suspect is asked to call police.
