SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, March 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle crashed into another car Sunday evening, leaving the four occupants with minor injuries, police said.

That collision was caused by the suspect trying to avoid spikes set down by officers.

Lt. Dalan Taylor from West Valley City Police Department said one of its officers saw a Honda Accord reported stolen out of their city sometime earlier this week. An officer followed the car north on 300 East to South Salt Lake while coordinating an arrest plan.

“In an attempt to deplete the tires in the vehicle, a Unified officer deployed spikes,” Taylor said. “When he went around those spikes, he swerved and hit a Cadillac Fleetwood, which had pulled off to the side of the road.”

There were two adults and a child in the Cadillac, who all suffered minor injuries.

The suspect, 26-year-old John Snider, attempted to get out of his vehicle and flee on foot, but police took him into custody. An adult female passenger in the suspect’s car had minor injuries.

Snider was taken to a hospital as a precaution to be checked out. Taylor said Snider had several warrants out for his arrest and is likely to face new charges for the stolen vehicle and the crash.
