SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, June 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — An individual is dead after South Jordan police responded to a call of “a suspicious person alleged to be looking through car windows.”

A statement issued by South Jordan police, issued at 1:38 p.m. Saturday, says the person was located at an area park, “and produced a knife as they were contacted by officers.

“The subject was uncooperative as officers spoke with them, and less than lethal force was used in an attempt to disarm and detain them. After multiple attempts to gain compliance were ineffective, the subject advanced on officers with the knife, and was shot.

“They were taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment, where they later died.”

The incident is believed to have happened at about 9 a.m.

“An officer-involved critical incident team has arrived at the scene to investigate this incident,” the SJPD statement says. “The involved officers were placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.”

The news release says the scene, in the area of Skye Park and Skye Drive, will remain closed this afternoon as the investigation continues.

Gephardt Daily will have more information as details are confirmed.
