MIDVALE, Utah, Dec. 29, 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man drove an SUV into an apartment in Midvale Thursday afternoon causing approximately $50,000 in damages.

Unified Fire Authority spokesman Taylor Sandstrom said crews responded to an apartment complex at 7340 S. Union Creek Way (1050 East) at approximately 2:30 p.m.

A 69-year-old man pulled out of a parking space in his Ford Explorer, and for some unknown reason, he accelerated across the parking strip and struck the nearest apartment.

The driver was able to exit the vehicle safely and was not injured.

There was no one in the apartment at the time of the incident.

The apartment is no longer habitable, and Sandstrom said the estimate of the damages is approximately $50,000. A building inspector was called and the rest of the structure is not damaged.

One person was displaced as a result of the crash.
