OGDEN, Utah, Feb. 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect wanted in connection to the shooting of two brothers in Ogden Monday evening arrested in a Layton apartment building Tuesday afternoon.
Layton Police tweeted: “Layton Officers and Ogden PD on scene at 225 N. Fairfield Road looking for Ogden homicide suspect. Situation is contained to one apartment but still good to avoid the area.”
Lt. Travis Lyman from Layton PD said there was a person in the back bedroom of one of the Stonehenge apartments who was not being cooperative, and SWAT teams were called to the scene.
Lyman said residents of the apartment building were being asked to stay inside and the public was being asked to avoid the area.
“We ended up isolating one apartment in particular where we were able to take him into custody,” Lyman said. “He wasn’t willing initially to come out of the apartment and isolated himself in one of the back rooms, so we deployed some gas into the apartment and and given a little time that convinced him into coming out. He’s in the ambulance now being decontaminated from exposure to that.”
Neither the suspect or any officers were injured as a result of the incident.
Lyman said it was initially thought the suspect was in one apartment, but it turned out after further investigation he was in a different apartment. It’s not clear why the suspect was at the apartment building.
According to Lt. Brian Eynon, Ogden City Police Department, the suspect in the case has been identified as Theron Farmer, 23.
The deceased was identified Tuesday morning as 18-year-old Kamron Johnson. His brother, Eric Johnson Jr., 20, was critically injured. Eynon said Eric Johnson has been very cooperative and is speaking with investigators.
The investigation, including determining a motive for the shooting, is ongoing.
“These individuals were specifically targeted and we’re just trying to figure out what that reason is, and why they were specifically targeted,” Eynon said. “We do not have any indication there is any danger to the public.”
Lt. Clint Christensen, Ogden Police Department, told Gephardt Daily Monday night police were alerted to the shooting at about 5:35 p.m. Monday. They responded to the 800 block of Lake Street, a dead-end street several blocks west of Union Station.
“When we got here, we found one male deceased and one man in critical condition, both with gunshot wounds, no suspects in the area,” Christensen said.
Christensen said police believe there may be a second suspect.
“One for sure, possibly two,” he said.
The case is actively being investigated by detectives from the Ogden Police Department, the Weber County Homicide Task Force and CSI.
