MILLCREEK, Utah, Oct. 11, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – A 52-year-old domestic violence suspect was taken into custody Friday afternoon after barricading himself inside his Millcreek home.
The standoff began about 12:29 p.m., when Unified Police responded to a call for help from a residence near 3900 S. 1960 East.
“Officers made contact with individuals in the home, including a victim, and concluded, that, in fact, a domestic violence incident had occurred,” according to Sgt. Aymee Race, public information officer for the Unified Police Department.
“Unfortunately, that individual chose to barricade himself inside the residence, so we called out the UPD SWAT team,” Race told Gephardt Daily.
The SWAT team arrived and, after a two-hour-long standoff, gained entry into the home. The suspect complied and was placed in custody, Race said.
There were no reports of serious injuries, to police, the suspect, or the alleged victim, who was evaluated by medical personnel, but declined to be taken to a hospital for further examination.
The suspect, whose name is being withheld by Gephardt Daily in order to protect the victim’s identity, was being questioned by police and was expected to be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, Race said.
