MIDVALE, Utah, Jan. 14, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man accused in the brutal stabbing of a Springville man was taken into custody Sunday after a daylong standoff in Midvale.

Police say Andrew Holloway, 33, attacked his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend at a home in Springville at about 6:10 a.m., stabbing the victim multiple times in the head, face and upper torso. The boyfriend — whose name has not been released — survived the attack, but was seriously injured.

While Springville police were responding to initial calls for help, investigators say Holloway drove north, making his way to a Midvale residence near 245 W. 8200 South.

Police discovered Holloway’s car parked on the street with blood inside the vehicle.

Officers determined Holloway was inside a nearby home with another man and ordered them to come outside. The man gave himself up, while Holloway refused to surrender.

After a couple hours the SWAT team was called in, and negotiators once again tried to talk Holloway into surrendering.

When Holloway refused, the SWAT team unloaded, firing flash grenades and pepper gas into the house. Within a matter of moments, Holloway emerged and was taken into custody.

Holloway suffered a minor injury when he was momentarily set upon by a police K-9.

There were no other reports of injuries.

Police investigators say they had been searching for Holloway since the night before, when he allegedly chased his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend in their car through the streets of Springville.
