SOUTH OGDEN, Utah, June 30, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — SWAT teams are on the scene of an hours-long standoff with a suspect in South Ogden, where multiple shots have been fired.

South Ogden Police Sgt. David Labbe told Gephardt Daily the incident began at approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday when officials responded to a call reporting domestic violence with assault. Officers met with the victims at a local hospital.

“The officers were able to determine that the injuries to those victims had reached the felony level, and the officers came to the home to confront the suspect and speak to him about what had occurred,” Labbe said. “They didn’t have any contact with him, so they drafted a warrant to gather evidence, and the warrant was signed.”

The home is in the area of Monroe Boulevard and 4500 South.

The Ogden Metro SWAT team then took over because there was information that firearms were in the home. The SWAT team negotiated with the suspect until approximately midnight, when he opened fire on the officers, Labbe said.

“Officers returned fire and, over the period of about six hours, they exchanged gunfire multiple times,” he said. “Right now we don’t know the status of this individual.”

He said the suspect fired “dozens of shots, if not more,” but no officers have been injured.

Labbe added that the suspect has not been identified.

Multiple agencies are still at the scene Wednesday morning. In addition to the Metro SWAT team, Brigham City SWAT and Layton City SWAT are assisting with the incident.

“We are currently trying to assess the situation, trying to find out if we can contact him [the suspect] again,” Labbe said. “We haven’t had contact with him now for several hours, but due to the complexity of what we’re dealing with, the fact that the officers were fired on, we’re not taking any chances with him, obviously.”

A robot, drones and other equipment also have been utilized, but the status of the suspect has not been established.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is provided.
