TAYLORSVILLE, UTAH – October 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The City of Taylorsville and United Veterans Council will host the 2015 Veterans Day Parade and Program on Wednesday, November 11.

The theme this year is “Honoring Combat Veterans.” The parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Taylorsville Recreation Center, 4948 South 2700 West, and will end at Taylorsville City Hall. The co-Grand Marshals in the parade are Dennis Chomech and Roy Feragen. Mayor Johnson personally invited every 5th grade class from all nine elementary schools in Taylorsville to attend the parade.

There will be more than 900 students, teachers, and administrators holding U.S. flags lined up along the 2700 West parade route to honor veterans. Following the parade, at 12:15 p.m., there will be a program next to the Taylorsville Veterans Memorial on the south side of Taylorsville City Hall.

The 45-minute program will include Vista Elementary second grade students performing a patriotic medley. The keynote speaker is United States Representative Chris Stewart. The program will conclude with the introduction of the Grand Marshals and the Student Essay and Poster Contest Winners.

In addition to the parade and program, Flags of Honor will be set up south of Taylorsville City Hall. It is a memorial to fallen soldiers in Utah who have lost their lives in recent wars. A flag representing each fallen Utah hero and information about that soldier is part of the memorial.

“We are humbled and honored to have the opportunity to host the Veterans Day Parade and Program,” said Taylorsville Mayor Larry Johnson. “The willingness of veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.”

Inside city hall, the largest World War II collection will be on display courtesy of the WWII ERA Preservation Society. Also present will be representatives from the Utah Honor Flight Organization, Kearns Historical Society, and National Wheel Chair Games.
