Update: Victim In Fatal Vernal 3-Vehicle Crash Identified

VERNAL, Utah, May 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 19-year-old Vernal man who was killed after a three-car accident on State Route 40 near Vernal Friday afternoon has been identified.

The Utah Highway Patrol said 19-year-old Sandon Marshall died in the crash which happened near mile marker 138 just before 2 p.m.

According to investigators, the accident happened when one vehicle rear-ended another as it was making a left hand turn onto McCoy Flats Road from SR40.

The car which was hit was pushed into oncoming traffic where it struck a third vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle, Shirley Shiner, 69, from Roosevelt, was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 17-year-old girl from Vernal, was transported in extremely critical condition.

Marshall was a passenger in the second vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the third vehicle, Sadine Chimburas, 63, from Whiterocks, Utah, was transported in serious but stable condition and her passengers, three children ages 3, 8 and 9, were transported to area hospitals. The 9-year-old is serious but stable condition and the other two children were treated for minor injuries and released.

A GoFundMe has been created to help the families of both Sandon Marshall and the 17-year-old girl friends and family say is fighting for her life.
