MORGAN COUNTY, Utah, Nov. 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 17-year-old driver died Friday in Morgan County after his car slid on a slushy road and collided with a semi that had pulled into the Interstate 84 emergency lane.

The accident happened at about 10 a.m., according to a statement by the Utah Highway Patrol. The semi in the emergency lane had almost completed a full stop on eastbound I-84, near mile marker 99.

A 2002 Hyundai Sonata being driven by the teenager, a Taylor resident, was traveling east in the same area.

“The driver of the Sonata lost control on the slushy road and slid sideways, impacting the rear of the semi trailer with the passenger side of the car,” the statement says. “The 17-year-old driver of the Sonata was killed as a result of the crash. The driver of the semi was not injured.”

The victim was not wearing a seat belt, the statement said. The right lane of I-84 was closed during the crash investigation.
