PIUTE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 7, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The 17-year-old boy who drowned Saturday in Otter Creek Reservoir has been identified as Chase Leroy Clark, of Kingman, Ariz.

The teenager was swimming at a family reunion at Otter Creek Reservoir when he became caught in a spillway drain, said Deputy Matt Whittacker, Piute County Sheriff’s office. The emergency call came to dispatch operators at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

“He and some others had gone below the dam and were playing in the river when the man got too close to a culvert that ran under a roadway and was pulled in by the strong current,” said Whittaker, in a news release Sunday.

“People who were on the scene at the time the incident began attempted to free him, but were unsuccessful. The man’s body was recovered a short time later, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.”

Whittacker told Gephardt Daily that Chase Clark’s parents have family ties to Utah, which is why he was here for the reunion.
