OGDEN, Utah, July 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden teenager originally arrested on suspicion of murder has pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

Trevon Jordan Zamora, 18, was charged in the 2017 shooting death of 47-year-old Ogden resident Maria Sanchez.

Zamora, who was 16 at the time of the crime, was charged as an adult, as was a second teen, Daniel Garcia. Police say the teens fired bullets at the residence. Sanchez was shot in the head while sleeping on Aug. 14, 2017.

When formal charges were finalized, the preliminary murder charge was not listed. Zamora was charged with:

  • Felony discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony
  • Obstructing justice, a second-degree felony
  • Possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.

On Wednesday, Zamora pleaded guilty to the first charge, felony discharge of a firearm, in exchange for the other three charges being dismissed.

Zamora’s sentencing date is set for Aug. 22 in Ogden’s 2nd District Court.

Garcia’s case is ongoing. His next court appearance is planned for July 23 in Ogden.
