SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday night when two teens, both male, were arguing in a vehicle in the area of 823 N. Lafayette Drive.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Jenn Diederich told Gephardt Daily the two youths were in a parked car when their argument apparently escalated and one shot the other multiple times.

The wounded teen was transported to the hospital in “bravo” condition, meaning his injuries were not life-threatening, Diederich said.

The incident was called in at 8:12 p.m., and officers set up a containment area and brought in a canine in an attempt to locate the shooter.

As of 10 p.m., no suspect was in custody and no weapon had been found, but Diederich said, “We have a pretty good idea of who we’re looking for.”

She referred to the victim and the shooter as “acquaintances,” and said the incident is “likely gang-related.”

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
