MIDVALE, Utah, Nov. 8, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 10-year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by a car Tuesday afternoon in Midvale.

The girl was hit at approximately 3:50 p.m. in the area of 425 W. Center Street (7720 South), according to Unified Police Department Detective Jared Richardson.

He said the girl was walking in a crosswalk with her cousin, who is about the same age. The girl was hit by a car that was traveling westbound on Center Street, and her cousin was not hit. Richardson said the driver of the car was also a juvenile, and is either 16 or 17 years old.

The victim was taken by ground ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center, then transported by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital, Richardson said.

He said investigators are looking at factors including speed because of skid marks at the scene.

Drivers are being warned to expect delays in the area of Center Street in Midvale, between 200 West and 500 West.

Richardson said the westbound lanes of Center Street were closed as of 6 p.m., and westbound traffic was being moved over into one of the eastbound lanes. The other eastbound lane was being used for eastbound traffic as usual.

Richardson said the scene is expected to be cleared by 6:30 p.m.
