SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, May 11, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials are investigating an accident Friday afternoon involving a Tesla and a Unified Fire Authority pickup truck on Bangerter Highway.
Sgt. Sam Winkler, South Jordan Police Department, told Gephardt Daily the accident happened at about 6:30 p.m. at 10400 S. Bangerter.
Winkler said a southbound Tesla Model S was being driven at 60 miles an hour, which is the posted speed limit.
The Tesla failed to stop and hit a UFA pickup truck at that speed.
Winkler said the truck is used for repair work and is heavier and more substantial than a regular pickup.
The driver of the Tesla, a 26-year-old woman from Lehi, was taken to a local hospital with a broken right ankle and possible other broken bones.
Winkler said the road was wet and there was a light rain, but the cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Police do not suspect any impairment.
He said the crash is still under investigation, and officials will be checking whether the car was in the autopilot mode when it failed to stop.
Gephardt Daily will provide more information on this story as it becomes available.
