WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH – September 3, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A three-year-old girl who died after she was ejected during a rollover accident in West Valley City Thursday afternoon has been identified.

The child who died, Paisley Hayden, was travelling in an SUV driven by her mother, Carolyn Hughes, 23, of Salt Lake City. There were a total of eight children in the SUV, and police said none of them were restrained.

A two-year-old boy also seriously injured his leg in the crash, between the SUV and a Nissan, which happened around 4:30 p.m.

West Valley City Police Department said the accident happened on southbound Redwood Road. Roxeanne Vainuku, WVC Police Department said the SUV was heading northbound on Redwood Road and started to make a left turn to go into Research Way. As it was making a left turn, a Nissan coming south through the intersection clipped the SUV, which flipped onto it’s side then popped back up to rest on the other car. The Nissan driver has been identified as Josue Diaz-Cruz, 21, of West Valley City. He was the only person in that vehicle.

The deceased girl and the critically injured boy are the children of the women driver, but it’s not known if the other children were hers. The other children and the female driver have minor injuries. The driver of the Nissan was taken to hospital with a broken arm.

Vainuku said authorities will be looking into a number of factors including the light cycle and distracted driving.
