MILLARD COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 2-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman were critically injured Sunday morning after the vehicle they were in rolled on Interstate 15 in Millard County.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the victims were in a northbound vehicle near the Cove Fort exit when the 23-year-old male driver fell asleep at the wheel and drifted off the road. Investigators say he then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll.
UHP Sgt. Greg Kelsey told members of the media the 22-month-old girl was not properly restrained and was ejected from the vehicle.
The toddler and the 22 year old were taken to Fillmore Community Hospital. The child ultimately was flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.
The driver — who name was not released — was also taken to Fillmore Community Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and taken into custody. He now faces charges of driving on a suspended license, failure to stay in a proper travel lane and operating a vehicle without insurance.
All three charges are class B misdemeanors.
