Toddler pulled from Sandy pond, hospitalized in critical condition

SANDY, Utah, June 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 1-year-old boy was found face-down and unresponsive in a Sandy pond on Wednesday night.

Sandy police were called to the scene, near 8500 S. Grambling Way (1135 East), at 8:37 p.m.

The boy was transported to nearby Alta View Hospital, then flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital. He is in critical condition, according to police reports.

This is the fourth drowning or near-drowning reported involving a child of 4 or younger since Saturday in Salt Lake County.

  • On Saturday, a 3-year-old girl was transported to the hospital and later released after a near drowning at a pool in South Jordan.
  • On Sunday, a 3 1/2-year-old girl was found in a neighbor’s pool in Riverton. She died at the hospital.
  • On Tuesday, a 4-year-old girl was found in the bottom of a swimming pool in West Valley City. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and her condition was later upgraded to stable.
