TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Tooele County toddler left his home unnoticed Tuesday morning and was struck by a car.

The 2-year-old boy died from his injuries, Lt. Travis Scharmann, Tooele County Sheriff’s Office, told Gephardt Daily.

“It happened at about 10:30,” Scharmann said. “He just snuck out of the house, and he was struck by a car, an SUV.”

The residence is located near 6900 N. Burmester Road, just north of Grantsville, Scharmann said. It’s a rural area, he said.

The driver, an adult female, stayed at the scene and cooperated fully with officials, Scharmann said. Officials found no evidence that speeding or impairment were contributing factors in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing, Scharmann said, adding that the victim’s name will not be released until all family notifications have been made.
