TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, June 12, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — One lane in each direction of Interstate 80 in Tooele has reopened after multiple wrecks in the area Monday morning due to high winds, while power outages are still affecting customers in Salt Lake City.
The Utah Department of Transportation initially tweeted at 10:30 a.m. that I-80 was closed from the Utah-Nevada border to Grantsville. Authorities then reopened one lane eastbound and one westbound shortly after 11 a.m.
The North Tooele Fire District tweeted crews are out on four separate semi rollovers on I-80, near mile posts 72, 74 and 82. There is no word yet on whether anyone has been injured.
“If you have a high profile vehicle, consider delaying travel plans until winds subside,” the tweet said.
The National Weather Service is reporting that strong winds will continue through Monday evening.
A total of 6,172 of customers are also without power in Salt Lake City due to the high winds as of 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Rocky Mountain Power posted on its website that 3,957 customers in Sugar House are affected, in the area of 300 East and 2700 South. A crew has been notified, but an estimated time of restoration has not been given.
A total of 1,097 customers are also without power in the area of 900 West between 1700 South and 2100 South. Dispatch has been notified and the estimated time of restoration is 5 p.m.
There are also numerous smaller outages affecting a handful of customers.
