WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, May 12, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — No injuries were reported after a TRAX train derailed in West Valley City on Sunday afternoon near the Maverik Center.
A Green Line TRAX train derailed about 2 p.m. near 3100 South and Decker Lake Drive, Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky said.
One of the four cars on the train derailed and struck a power pole, Arky told Gephardt Daily.
UTA crews are using a crane to put the train back on the tracks and return it to the rail yard, he said.
Delays are affecting Green Line trains between the West Valley Central and Redwood Junction stations. A van bridge has been established between the two stations, according to UTA.
There is no estimate as to when the scene will be cleared and power restored for rail service in the area, Arky said.
“UTA crews will work through the night around the clock to get service restored as quickly as possible,” he said.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid the intersection “for the next day or so,” Arky said.
The cause of the train derailment remains under investigation, he said.
Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
