TREMONTON, Utah, Dec. 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Tremonton are looking for a woman who escaped custody early Tuesday morning by driving away in the police car.

According to a news release from Tremonton Police Department, at about 2 a.m. an officer tried to stop a vehicle for speeding.

Four people were in the vehicle, which fled from the officer.

After a brief pursuit, the female driver of the vehicle stopped and fled on foot, but was caught after a short foot chase. She has been identified as Ashley Quintana.

Before backup officers could arrive on scene, the other occupants of the vehicle drove away. A Box Elder County deputy found it a short while later in front of Bear River High School.

In the vehicle was Caresa Chacon, 34, and she was taken into custody and put into the Tremonton officer’s car with Quintana.

Both women had their hands cuffed behind their backs. Quintana was in the back prisoner area, which can only fit one person. Chacon was seat-belted into the front passenger seat.

While the Box Elder deputy went to look for the two outstanding suspects and the Tremonton officer searched the suspect vehicle, Chacon managed to slide over into the driver’s seat of the police cruiser and put it in gear.

She was able to drive away as the officer attempted to stop her.

A few minutes later, the cruiser was located in Garland, and both women were gone.

“Officers began searching the area,” the release says, “and with the help of citizens, Chacon was located and taken into custody again.”

Ashley Quintana is still outstanding. She is described as a 28-year-old Hispanic woman, 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 145 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Police are also trying to identify the other two individuals who fled.

Anyone who has any information that might help officers locate these suspects is asked to call Tremonton Police at 435-734-3800.
