WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 10 (Gephardt Daily) — Three Southern Utah men were booked into jail after Washington City Police officers noticed multiple air fresheners dangling from the roof of their SUV, and brought in a sniffer dog to determine what the fresheners were intended to mask.
The mystery scent turned out to be a distributable amount marijuana, a probable cause statement filed in the case says. After being given consent to search the black SUV, the officer located a large black garbage bag, with multiple separate clear packages of a leafy green substance, the affidavit says.
Also found after the traffic stop were a Ruger pistol, found between the passenger seat and the center console; ammunition consistent with the Ruger, rolled into a chip bag and resting on the front passenger floor; and a clear plastic bag, tied, containing a white powder consistent with cocaine.
The three men were arrested, and were identified as Jesus Torres-Lopez, 21, of Beryl, an unincorporated community in Iron County; and Dario Siqueiros-Hernandez, 32, and Jesus Orduno-Chavez, 28, of Washington City.
The men were interviewed by a Spanish-speaking officer. None of the three had a driver license, and one had an ID car from Mexico that appeared to be a fake.
Post Miranda (in Spanish), all three men agreed to talk to police, but denied knowledge of the large container of marijuana in the back or of the narcotics.
They were transported to jail for further interview by a Spanish-speaking officer, the probable cause statement says.
