SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men are in custody Tuesday night after Metro Gang Unit officers conducted a traffic stop, and one of the men decided to run.

The incident happened at about 8 p.m. in the area of 400 S. Redwood Road.

Sgt. Melody Gray, Unified Police Department spokeswoman, said officers had been looking for 19-year-old Jose Aguilar, who had outstanding warrants.

The other man in the vehicle, Alejandro Pineda-Mondragon, 23, was on probation for a felony and had a handgun in his possession.

As the officers conducted the traffic stop and arrested Aguilar, Pineda-Mondragon took off on foot, throwing the gun over a fence as he ran.

A police K-9 caught up with Pineda-Mondragon, and an officer deployed a Taser, bringing the combative man into compliance. He had been bitten by the dog and was checked for any injuries, which turned out to be very minor, Gray said.

Aguilar was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on the warrants, and Pineda-Mondragon also was taken to jail, where Gray said he is facing a charge of probation violation, possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
