Mother And Son From Heber In Custody After Cross Country Child Custody Kidnapping

A mother and son, Donna E. Jones and Michael Thomas Jones from Heber City are in custody Thursday on first degree kidnapping charges for transporting a 22-month child across state lines.

HEBER CITY, Utah, April 28, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A mother and son from Heber City are in custody Thursday on first degree kidnapping charges for transporting a 22-month child across state lines.

Donna E. Jones, 56, was arrested Wednesday in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on kidnapping charges, said Heber City Police officer Xela Thomas in a news release.

Thomas said Jones violated a child custody order and transported her grandson to Oklahoma. Jones is awaiting extradition to Utah on these charges.

With the assistance of the FBI Tulsa Division and Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, Jones was arrested on a kidnapping warrant and the child is now in the custody the Tulsa County Department of Human Services. The child’s mother is currently enroute to Oklahoma to be reunited with her child.

Michael Thomas Jones, 24, also of Heber City, was arrested yesterday on first degree accessory to kidnapping and violation of a protective order in Heber City for acting in concert with his mother. He is currently being held at the Wasatch County Jail on $25,000 cash-bail only.

HCPD said in the news release it would like to thank the FBI Salt Lake City Division, the FBI Tulsa Division, Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office and Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in reuniting mother and child.
