SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – September 22, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Two juveniles were taken into custody after they crashed the stolen vehicle they were in Tuesday morning.

According to Detective Greg Wilking, Salt Lake City Police, officers were called to the scene of a traffic accident at 970 West 2100 South. When they arrived they discovered that a car was stopped in middle lane at a light and was struck from behind by another motorist.

“The driver and passenger of the car that caused the collision then fled on foot,” said Wilking. “It was later determined that the car involved was a stolen vehicle.”

The driver of the car that was rear ended was taken to the nearest hospital in critical condition with injures to his neck and back.

“We had a lot of witnesses who were able to help officers determine the direction the suspects fled and we were able to set up containment just inside West Valley City Police jurisdiction,” said Wilking. “Our officers, with the help of  K-9 units, were able to track down the suspects and take them into custody.”

Wilking said both suspects are juveniles and are facing multiple charges including leaving scene of accident causing serious bodily injury, fleeing and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Detectives are not saying when the car was stolen but Wilking thought it was possible it had just been stolen this morning.
