OGDEN, Utah, April 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men in a stolen vehicle were sent to the hospital Wednesday morning after colliding with a school bus in Ogden.

Lt. Will Cragun, Ogden City Police, said the accident happened at 9:19 a.m. at the intersection of 30th and Lincoln.

“A 1990 Chevy Lumina with two males inside was driving south on Lincoln when the driver ran a red light at 30th South,” Cragun said.

“They were struck by a school bus that was headed west, and the impact caused the bus to collide with a 2013 Sentra that was traveling next to him.”

Cragun said the both occupants of the Lumina had to be extricated and both were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The driver of the Lumina is in extremely critical condition and the passenger suffered serious injuries.

“The 30-year-old female driver of Sentra was OK, but she was pretty shaken up, and the 29-year-old female driver of the bus suffered a minor leg injury, but was not transported,” Cragun said. “There were no students on the bus.”

During the investigation, it was determined the Lumina had been stolen from Ogden on March 1, near 3000 S. Harrison. It had been left running and unattended, according to Cragun.

“We cannot stress enough how important it is to not leave your car unattended while it is running,” Cragun said. “We have really been focusing on campaigning for the last several years against this and approaching people when we see it. It’s against the state law to leave your car running unattended, and we see a lot of thefts because of it.”

The accident is still under investigation and police are trying to identify the two men. It is not known whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
