Murray Woman in Accident on Railroad Tracks Still in Critical Condition
SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – July 27, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A 22-year-old Murray woman is still in critical condition and her 17-year-old passenger is in fair condition after the small van they were in left the road on 3900 South near 300 West and ended up upside down on the railroad tracks below.
According to South Salt Lake Police spokesman Gary Keller, the women were travelling westbound on 3900 South around 5:30 a.m. when the van veered off the road, down a steep embankment, through a fence, and onto the rail lines used by Union Pacific and UTA’s Frontrunner service.
The van’s driver was partially ejected and was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The passenger of the van was also critically injured but has since been upgraded to fair condition.
The names of the victims have yet to be released pending notification of family members.
Traffic on 3900 South, as well as the rail lines, was shut down for several hours as the accident was cleared and investigated.
Investigators told Gephardt Daily they’re trying to determine if another vehicle was involved in the crash.
