WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — One man is in critical condition after a two-car collision in West Valley City Sunday morning.

West Valley Police Lt. Dalan Taylor said the incident occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. at 3500 S. Redwood Road, and the man had to be extricated.

“We had a silver passenger car that was westbound on 3500 South. It came up on the red light at Redwood Road,” Taylor said. “There was a red passenger car that was northbound, on Redwood Road, the silver passenger car went through a red light and broadsided the red car.

“The red car came to rest up on a sidewalk, near the Burger King, and the silver car came to rest just opposite the red car.”

Taylor said there were at least two occupants in the red car. The adult male in the passenger side sustained a head injury and was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the red car, a female adult, has moderate injuries. The driver of the silver car was uninjured.

“Right now, we are investigating the driver of the silver car for DUI for alcohol,” Taylor said.

“It looks like the passenger of the red vehicle took the brunt of the impact, because it hit right on the passenger door, and the damage was significant. Unfortunately it looks like the red car was doing the right thing and going through the light on the green light, and this driver came through and got them.”

Taylor said it’s not yet known if speed was a factor.

  1. red car is just as much as fault. Who doesn’t watch for opposing traffic late at night and just assume that your green light will stop them; probably a young dumb blonde driver

  2. Red car is not legally or logically at as much or any fault. Legally, red car is allowed to be in the intersection on a green light, silver car is legally not allowed to be in the intersection on a red light. Legally, red car is following the law, silver car is not. Logically, victims of another’s wrong doing are not equally responsible for the happening as the wrong doer. The driver of the red car, while obeying traffic laws, is logically not as responsible for an accident that a possibly drunk driver caused while disobeying traffic laws. You might want to reconsider calling other people dumb if you think people following laws are as guilty as those who don’t follow laws because that’s a pretty stupid statement.

  3. Yes, anon …. a person not drunk who went on a green light and who the police said was doing nothing wrong is just as liable as a drunk person who ran a red light. Right. And do you know what “opposing traffic” is? I’m pretty sure it’s not a car coming from the right. Also, the driver of the red car would have had to have crossed 4 lanes at least to have gotten hit at the passenger door from the right. Hopefully a diagram is not needed to explain that to you. From a dead stop how long do you think that would have taken … so how far away would the silver car have been … far enough to expect them to stop perhaps? And maybe a car coming up a hill on a curve would not have even been seen …. since the police said a witness stated “the car came out of nowhere”. Yes, I know that last statement wasn’t in the report but it had enough information to provide a thinking person with a better conclusion than “probably a young dumb blonde”.

  4. Driver of the red car is my daughter and she is the safest driver I know. she was not at fault. Since when it was OK to drive drunk and run red lights. that’s the problem.these days people don’t care any more so (anon) please be kind what you say. Cuz it might come back and haunt you. And all you’ll see is me looking down on you.

  5. To (anon) be kind in what you say. That girl is my beautiful daughter. And is one of the safest Drivers I know.and when is it was OK to speed and drive drunk and disobey traffic laws. The problem with the world today is no one cares anymore. You wouldn’t be so mean if that person was you. So be kind. cuz it might come back and haunt you.and all you’ll see looking up from the ground .is ME looking down on you

    • Oh please, if half of her stupidity came from your trailer trash ass, shes lucky to be alive. 12 seconds ahead people. It’s called defensive driving. Im sure the car magically “appeared out of nowhere”. Again, dumb ass blonde

      • I’m sorry you feel you need to attack and hurt people on a simple news report. Fortunately, your opinion is completely inaccurate so it is easily dismissed.
As the facts are, the driver of the red car did everything that could be done correctly and the accident was unfortunately unavoidable. The driver of the red vehicle was driving defensively, the other vehicle was not visible within the 12 seconds you cite, by the time there was 12 seconds to respond it was already too late.
