SARDINE CANYON, Utah, June 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The main route between  Brigham City and Logan has been shut down in both directions Monday afternoon after a dump truck rolled, officials said.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street told Gephardt Daily the incident occurred on U.S. Highway 89/91 at mile marker 5, which is the mouth of Sardine Canyon, at approximately 1:35 p.m.

Street said the dump truck was hauling sand or gravel, it’s not clear which at this early stage. It overturned in the northbound lanes, spilling its load into the southbound lanes.

A front-end loader is on the scene to clear the contents of the truck and a tow truck is on scene to haul the dump truck.

Street said the dump truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area, as it’s not clear at this stage when the highway will reopen. Anyone traveling to Logan should take Interstate 15 then State Route 30.

The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
