KANE COUNTY, Utah, April 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A driver died after crashing their vehicle while fleeing police in Iron and Kane counties on Saturday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Officers from multiple agencies began pursuing a vehicle in Iron County and onto U.S. 89 in Kane County, UHP said in a news release.

Tire spikes were deployed near the intersection of U.S. 89 and state Route 14 in northern Kane County, according to UHP.

The driver continued south on U.S. 89, where a Kane County sheriff‘s deputy had pulled over to the side of the highway to deploy a second set of tire spikes, the release says.

The fleeing vehicle then crashed into the deputy’s unoccupied patrol vehicle, according to UHP. The driver died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The incident is being investigated by the Iron, Garfield, Beaver and Kane County Protocol Team, the release says.
