CHARLESTON, Utah, May 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police say a truck driver who lost control of a semitrailer and plunged into Deer Creek Reservoir was believed to be in the cab when it submerged Monday evening.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said the driver lost control of the semi on state Route 189 in Wasatch County a little after 7 p.m., causing the truck to jackknife, crash through a guardrail and into Deer Creek Reservoir.

The driver was believed to be in the truck’s cab, which was fully submerged in the reservoir, Roden said. The semi had been hauling propane, which is leaking into the reservoir, he said.

SR-189 is closed in both directions due to the crash, Roden said. Hazmat crews are on scene to help contain the spill.

No other cars were involved in the crash, according to UHP.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
