UINTAH COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 17, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist was flown to the hospital in extremely critical condition late Saturday afternoon after he lost control of his bike and crashed on State Route 191.

A Utah Highway Patrol news release said the crash happened at about 4:54 p.m. as the single rider was southbound near milepost 369, about 14 miles north of Vernal.

It appears that the motorcyclist was traveling too fast, the news release said, and may have hit a bicycle rack on the back of another vehicle, causing the rider to lose control of the bike and crash.

The rider was not wearing a helmet, although one was strapped to the motorcycle. He had significant head injuries.

Witnesses stopped to provide aid until troopers and medical personnel arrived. The injured man was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Salt Lake City, with his condition listed as extremely critical.

The other vehicle that was involved left the scene, and troopers are trying to identify the vehicle and owner, the news release says.

“Evidence gathered on scene suggests that alcohol may have also been a contributing factor in the crash,” the news release states. “UHP would remind all motorcycle riders to always wear a helmet, ride the speed limit, and never ride while impaired.”
