MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE, Utah, July 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Highway Patrol troopers say they believe the use of a seat belt saved the life of a 19-year-old involved in a rollover in Weber County on Tuesday morning.

UHP officials said the accident happened at about 8 a.m. near milepost 346 on I-15 when the man, driving a passenger car, fell asleep at the wheel.

The driver drifted from the left lane and into the median, then crossed from the left lane to the right lane, then ran off the side of the road, down an embankment, and into a tree, causing the right tire and part of the frame to break off.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was able to crawl out of his vehicle.  He was transported to Mckay-Dee Hospital with serious injuries.

Fire crews were able to contain the grass fire without further incident.
