PROVO, Utah, Nov. 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah Highway Patrol trooper’s vehicle was hit in Provo Canyon Monday during the heavy snow storm that blanketed the state for much of the day.

A news release from the UHP said the trooper was sitting in his patrol car on State Route 189 eastbound at about mile post 10 finishing up with a minor crash at approximately 2:30 p.m.

As the trooper was moving his vehicle, he saw a silver Toyota pickup start to lose control from behind him. The trooper tried to move further over to the right and get out of the path to avoid being hit, but was unsuccessful and was struck on the left rear side of his bumper. The damage was very minor and both vehicles were able to pull off into the Canyon Glen parking lot.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

In total, the UHP handled 75 non-injury crashes in Utah and Salt Lake County Monday, 13 minor injury crashes, and 32 slide-offs. Davis County had eight non-injury crashes from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and one slide-off.
