MIDVALE, Utah, Feb. 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified officials are warning Utah residents of a phone scam in which the caller tries to solicit donations for a police department that doesn’t exist.

“One of our loyal followers sent us a message informing us of a scam,” said a Facebook post from the Unified Police Department. “He received a call from a random number, and the person on the other end claimed to be from the ‘Midvale Police Department’ and was soliciting donations. The tipster caught on to this, knowing that Unified Police is the proud provider of police services to the residents of Midvale.”

The post goes on: “Rest assured, Unified Police does not randomly call people asking for money. We are investigating the origin of the call, but wanted to remind residents to always be suspicious of anyone who calls you asking for money, even if they sound legit.”
