MIDVALE, Utah, Oct. 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police officials are investigating a suspicious death at a Motel 6 in Midvale Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place at the motel at 7263 Catalpa St., officials said.

Unified Police Department Sgt. Melody Gray told Gephardt Daily officials received a call from the Motel 6 just before 1 p.m.

“We had housekeeping go into room 231 where they found a female deceased in the room,” Gray said. She added that the woman appears to be in her 50s.

“Investigators were called out because things just didn’t look right to them,” Gray added. “Right now we’re classifying this as a suspicious death. We have no obvious reason for her to be deceased, so the Medical Examiner will come out, and once we have an autopsy done we can have a few more answers to know what caused this woman’s death.”

When the woman was found she was the only one in the room, Gray said, but it’s not clear if someone was in the room with the woman prior to her being found.

“There’s a great deal of investigation to be done here,” Gray said. “Right now they’re in the room collecting anything that could potentially be evidence, taking all the photographs we’ll potentially need, the Medical Examiner will become involved, they’ll come out and conduct a simultaneous investigation and complete an autopsy, we’ll talk to the hotel staff, neighboring rooms, all of those things so we can figure out who was here if anyone else was here, was she alone, what potentially could have happened to her.”

The woman has not been identified pending identification of next of kin. It’s not clear how long the woman had been in the room.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
