Unified Police officer injured when patrol car crashes into tree

WEST VALLEY CITY, Dec. 30, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Unified Police officer was seriously injured Saturday night when his patrol car jumped a curb, knocking down a light pole and then driving 50 feet before smashing into a tree.

The incident happened at about 10:20 p.m. near 4100 S. 3100 West in West Valley City.

Witnesses told Gephardt Daily the officer was eastbound on 4100 South when his vehicle suddenly veered from the roadway. They attempted to assist the officer after the crash, but were unable to free him from the patrol car.

First responders arrived moments later and extricated the injured officer. He was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in serious condition.

The West Valley City Police Department is investigating the crash.
