Unified Police rescue hiker in East Canyon near Little Dell Reservoir

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man became dehydrated while hiking in the East Canyon on Friday evening and was rescued by members of the Unified Police Department Canyon Unit with assistance from the Department of Public Safety helicopter.

Unified Police Detective Mallory told Gephardt Daily a man and woman were hiking in the area of Little Dell Reservoir, near State Route 65 and Interstate 80, when the man “became dehydrated and couldn’t move.”

The 911 call came in at 7:05 p.m., and UPD responded and located the pair. The man was brought down off the mountain at 9:10 p.m. and was flown to the hospital in fair condition by the DPS helicopter.

No other information was available, but Mallory said it sounded like the man is going to be OK.
