TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, May 15, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police are looking for the man who stole a 2016 Nissan Rogue SUV in a Sunday afternoon carjacking.
UPD Lt. Brian Lohrke told Gephardt Daily the incident took place in the Fresh Market parking lot, 4710 S. Redwood Road, at about 3:45 p.m. Sunday, and “the suspect is still out there.”
A woman and her two children were in the vehicle with the engine running, while her husband went into the store.
That’s when a “male in his late teens” approached the Nissan and ordered the woman out of the vehicle.
“She got her kids out of the car, and the suspect drove off,” Lohrke said.
The Nissan was located about a half-hour later at 5700 S. 300 East in Murray.
Lohrke said the vehicle had been abandoned and the suspect left behind a red shirt that he’d been wearing at the time of the carjacking.
No one was injured in this incident and Lohrke said he believes the Nissan is now back with its owner.
The suspect is described as a white male in his late teens, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, with short blond hair.
The motive for the carjacking is unclear at this point. Lohrke said police looked into the possibility that the suspect had committed an earlier crime and was in a hurry to flee the area, but they found nothing to indicate that was the case.
