WEST JORDAN, Utah, Nov. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are releasing more details after two men died from gunshot wounds late Sunday afternoon at a home in West Jordan.

A tweet from West Jordan Police Department said the deceased are Terence Neilsen, 29, of Alabama and Anthony Dawson, 29, of Utah. “This is an ongoing investigation and there are no further details at this time,” the tweet said.

Officer Scott List, with the West Jordan Police Department, said the owner of the home, at 7133 S. Callie Drive (1520 West), told police he heard gunshots at about 5:40 p.m.

Thinking the gunfire was outside, the homeowner went out to look around. Seeing no one outside, he then opened the door to the garage and found one man dead inside, and another man wounded.

The second man later died in the hospital, List said. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

“They were guests in the house,” List told Gephardt Daily. “They were legally in the garage.”

Early Monday afternoon, West Jordan Officer Jennifer Worthen told Gephardt Daily the two men were homeless and were indeed guests at the home. Worthen said the two were known to each other, since they both were staying at the home, but details of their relationship other than that are not clear.

Drugs or alcohol may have been involved, officials said.

Police are treating the incident as a double homicide but believe it may have been a murder-suicide.

The homeowner is cooperating with investigators, officials said.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information is made available.
