SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Nov. 7, 2024 (GEPHARDT DAILY) — The body of a missing resident, believed to be a family member, has been recovered in the rubble of a South Jordan home which exploded and burned Wednesday afternoon.
According to a press release, issued by South Jordan public information officer Rachael Van Cleave, authorities “located the body of the deceased resident within the home” and “search efforts have concluded.”
The explosion was first reported about 3 p.m. when an ear-splitting blast leveled a home at 10593 South 3210 West sending smoke and flames shooting into the air.
First responders from South Jordan sped to the scene and quickly called for additional resources in what became a 2-alarm blaze.
Debris from the explosion was strewn in all directions, including a door frame, which was found across the street dozens of yards from the blast site.
While firefighters brought the blaze under control, nearby homes, many of them damaged by the blast’s concussion, were evacuated as a precaution, the press release said.
There were no other reports of injuries.
The cause of the explosion, which was captured by a neighbor’s security camera and sent to Gephardt Daily, had yet to be determined as of late Wednesday night.
Investigators from multiple agencies, including the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, were expected to be onsite overnight.
