SCHOFIELD, Utah, June 10, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews are working to establish containment on the Bennion Creek Fire near Schofield Friday morning.
“Yesterday the fire experienced significant winds and extreme fire behavior, pushing it to the southeast,” said a Facebook post from Utah Fire Info. “Local authorities evacuated Aspen Cove. Crews today are working to establish containment lines to protect structures and the community of Aspen Cove. The fire has grown to 4,706 acres and is at zero containment.”
The Aspen Cove area was evacuated Thursday afternoon.
“Effective immediately, a mandatory evacuation of Aspen Cove is taking place in Schofield,” said a tweet from Utah Fire Info at 5:15 p.m. “The evacuation is due to extreme fire behavior and forecasted winds that will move the fire toward the community.”
The Bennion Creek Fire broke out June 4 at 3:30 p.m.; a nearby Boy Scout camp was evacuated that same day.
“The wildfire is burning in very remote, rugged terrain and is inaccessible to firefighters on foot right now,” said a tweet from Utah Fire Info on June 4.
