PROVO, Utah, July 22, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was booked for attempted murder Friday night in Provo after police say he shot another man in the chest.

Caleb Plainer is accused of shooting Robbie Heiner at about 6:40 p.m., near 100 South and 600 West. Both men are 22.

“The victim talked to us briefly at the hospital,” Sgt. Brian Taylor, Provo Police Department, told Gephardt Daily. “He said the confrontation happened after Caleb accused Robbie of tampering with a gun. The verbal exchanged escalated into a shooting with the gun in dispute.”

Heiner fled to a neighbor’s house for help, according to PPD information, and is being treated at Utah Valley Hospital for a single gunshot wound to the chest. Taylor was unsure of Heiner’s condition.

Three witnesses were questioned, and backed up Heiner’s account of what had transpired, Taylor said. One witness was taken into custody on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.

Taylor said detectives were still processing evidence collected at the scene, “… but we think we have the basic framework of what happened.”
