PRICE, Utah, July 7, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials say an older barbecue that failed to contain embers led to a fire that damaged four homes Saturday afternoon in Price.

Crews from several agencies responded at 4:14 p.m. to a fire involving multiple structures, according to a news release from the Price City Police Department.

Three families were displaced from their homes and received assistance from the American Red Cross, the release says. One vacant home sustained minor damage, fire officials said.

An investigation by the Utah State Fire Marshal’s Office determined the barbecue started the fire.

One person was taken to a hospital, though the extent of their injuries was not disclosed.

“We want to give our [condolences] to those who have lost lifetimes of memories and possessions,” the Price City Fire Department said on social media, “and we want to thank all the surrounding agencies who have assisted today.”

The Helper, Wellington and East Carbon fire departments responded to assist.
