IRON COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who was shot by an elderly homeowner after he forced his way into a Cedar City residence naked has been released from the hospital and booked into jail.

According to jail records, Christian Ryan Holbert, 24, was booked Tuesday afternoon for investigation of second-degree felony burglary of a dwelling, third-degree felony criminal mischief, class B misdemeanor lewdness, class A misdemeanor failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, class B misdemeanor resisting/interfering with arrest and class C misdemeanor driving on a denied license.

The incident was reported at about 12:40 p.m. Aug. 21 as a burglary in progress near 4000 S. 17800 West, also known as Old Iron Town.

According to a news release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, two elderly homeowners were in the residence when the nude suspect kicked in the front door and entered the home.

The homeowners ordered the suspect to leave, and when he refused, the homeowner shot him multiple times with a handgun.

The suspect, later identified as Holbert, was seriously wounded, but managed to make his way outside where he was soon confronted by sheriff’s deputies.

Despite being shot, Holbert remained “non-compliant,” according to the news release. A Taser was deployed multiple times, officials said, but it had little to no impact on Holbert.

Deputies eventually subdued him physically and took him into custody.

Holbert was treated on scene by Gold Cross Ambulance and then was transported by Life Flight to Dixie Regional Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition.

He remained at DRMC until Tuesday, when he was transported to jail.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
