HARRISBURG, Utah, May 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a 24-year-old man who died at Quail Creek State Park near Harrisburg on Tuesday evening.

The deceased is Zackary Mansfield, from Provo, Utah Division of Natural Resources said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

Mansfield went shore fishing at about 7:30 p.m. with a friend but was alone at the time of the incident, the news release said.

“The friend became worried after a few hours of not being able to contact Zackary and called authorities who responded to the park,” the news release said. “Hurricane City Police Department and Utah State Parks personnel found Zackary face down in shallow water near the shoreline at approximately 11:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Utah DNR public information officer Nathan Schwebach told Gephardt Daily the incident remains under investigation as a possible drowning or medical event.

Washington County Search and Rescue was called to assist with the investigation using high-quality video and photography.

“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the friends and family impacted by this incident,” the news release said.

Quail Creek State Park is located nine miles west of Hurricane and 1.5 miles south of Harrisburg.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
