Update: Officials ID 3 killed in crash on SR-89 in Kane County

KANE COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified the three people killed Sunday night when a Ford van crossed over the center line and struck an Acura on State Route 89 in Kane County.

The three deceased occupants of the Acura are Arturo V. Torres, 31, of Salt Lake City, Renae Cobain, 19, of Magna, and Laura D. Cobain-Rodriguez, 27, of Salt Lake City, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The deadly crash occurred at 7:20 p.m. near mile marker 34, north of Big Water, an initial news release from UHP said.

The Ford van was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on SR-89, the news release said. It crossed over the center line and hit the northbound Acura SUV head on.

It isn’t known why the Ford van crossed the center line.

After the collision, the Ford van caught fire, the news release said.

The driver of the van was transported by Classic Air Guard to Dixie Regional Hospital.

Officials said a third southbound minivan hit debris from the crash and became disabled.
