SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, July 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a 74-year-old woman who died after a tree near her family cabin hit her in the head Tuesday afternoon.

A tweet from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the deceased is Judith Pearce, of West Valley City.

“We send our heartfelt condolences to the Pearce family and friends,” the tweet said.

An incident summary from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said the woman was using a chainsaw to cut down dead trees around the area of her family cabin in Manor Lands, eastern Summit County. The incident occurred sometime between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

“While doing so, a tree being supported by the tree she was cutting fell and hit the woman in the head,” the summary said. “The tree caused a fatal head injury to the woman.”

The woman, later identified as Pearce, was found by a friend who was helping remove debris from the area.
